Cookie policy
Thoughtsfromheree keeps the cookie story short on purpose. One choice is remembered. Nothing third-party is added when you decline. You can wipe the choice on this page and see the banner again.
What this site actually sets
When you arrive, a banner at the bottom of the page asks you to accept or decline. Until you choose, the banner stays visible. After you choose, the pages store a single value named tfh_consent in the browser’s local storage. The value is the word accept or the word decline. That record is treated as the consent cookie described in this policy, and it is kept for twelve months unless you reset it earlier.
The banner is part of the page markup. It is not hidden with a style rule before you choose. JavaScript only adds a hidden class after it finds a stored choice. If JavaScript is off, the banner remains on screen and the rest of the notebook still reads normally. Content sections are not gated on the cookie choice.
If you decline
Decline writes tfh_consent as decline and hides the banner. No analytics tag is injected. No advertising cookie is created. No third-party pixel is added as a reward for pressing the button. The site keeps working: you can still read dispatches, open planning tables and send the contact form. The form uses a server-side check.
Some browsers still send ordinary technical data to the host when they request a file, such as a page address and a user-agent string. That is a hosting log, described on the privacy page. It is not treated as a Thoughtsfromheree tracking cookie. Decline does not stop a browser from requesting /assets/css/base.css. It does stop this site from treating you as someone who asked for extra optional tools, because those tools are not loaded here in 2026 anyway.
If you accept
Accept writes tfh_consent as accept and hides the banner. In the current 2026 build that action does not launch a separate analytics product. The button exists so the choice is explicit and so a later optional measurement tool, if one is ever added, has a recorded yes. Until such a tool is documented on this page, accept does not install a third-party tracker.
I will not quietly expand the accept path. If a later revision starts using a measurement cookie, this table will gain a row and the banner copy will name it. A hidden extra cookie would break the promise on the banner: “Nothing else is set unless you accept.”
How to withdraw the choice
Use the button below. It clears tfh_consent and reloads the page. The banner returns. You can pick again. You can also delete site data for thoughtsfromheree.pro in your browser settings. Either path is enough. There is no account to log into and no e-mail you must send to “unsubscribe” from a cookie, because there is no cookie-based mailing list.
The two rows that matter
| Name | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|
| tfh_consent | Stores accept or decline so the banner does not keep asking on every page view. | 12 months, or until you reset it |
| Hosting request logs | Technical records kept by the hosting provider when a file is requested. Not set by the banner and not used as a marketing cookie. | Set by the provider’s diagnostic practice |
Embedded maps
The contact page includes a map frame pointed at 1559 Brunswick Street, Halifax. That frame is loaded from the map provider when you open the contact page. The provider may set its own cookies inside that frame according to its own rules. If you do not want that frame to load, skip the contact map. The civic address is printed under the frame so you can still find the desk.
Google Fonts are requested from Google’s font servers so headings render in Poppins and body text in PT Serif. That is a font request. It is not a Thoughtsfromheree analytics cookie. If you block third-party fonts, the pages fall back to system fonts and remain readable.
Changes and questions
This policy is for 2026. If the cookie list changes, I update the table first and then the banner sentence if the meaning of accept or decline shifts. Questions go to [email protected]. Bring the browser you used and the date you saw the banner if something looks off. I answer on weekday business hours, Atlantic time.
