A notebook that moves fast

Thoughtsfromheree is a personal field journal about travelling Canada. I write in the first person because there is one pair of boots on the ground and one desk in Halifax doing the filing.

Why this exists

I kept losing hours to trip pages that were a year out of date or that skipped the boring numbers. Ferry slots, litre prices and hostel bands move. A note filed five to eight days after the drive still has mud on it and still has a check date you can see. That is the product.

Halifax is the base because the Atlantic is where the odometer started in 2026. Coverage expands west on purpose. I want a reader in another province to copy a weekend loop or a two-week leave without inventing the skeleton from scratch. Eight dispatches are live. Six regions are open. The rest of the year is for thickening those files.

What gets published and what does not

  • Driven first. A region goes up after I have put the kilometres on the odometer. I do not write a Dempster note from a brochure.
  • Dated figures. Fares, ferry windows and litre ranges are marked indicative and carry a 2026 check. If a number moves, I edit the dispatch.
  • No partner links. I do not take payment to place a hostel, a tour or a gear shop in a sentence.
  • No paid placements. If a bed or a boat appears, it is because I slept there or boarded it.
  • No guest columns. One notebook, one voice, one inbox.

Editorial speed

Most dispatches publish five to eight days after I get home. That gap is for sleep, for a second look at official schedules and tariffs, and for cutting the paragraph that only sounds clever. Speed matters because a May ferry calendar is not a July ferry calendar, and a litre price I paid on Tuesday can shift before the next weekend.

I would rather file a tight 800-word note while the receipts are still in the door pocket than wait for a perfect essay in November. If a later trip changes the advice, I update the live page and I leave the new check date in the text. The archive is a working file that I keep editing.

Corrections

If a fare, a kilometre count or a seasonal claim looks wrong, send the page, the figure and the source through the contact form. I re-check the operator or agency site and I edit when the source is stronger than my notebook.

Simple factual fixes usually land within two business days, Atlantic time. Larger route changes wait until I can verify them on the next drive. The dispatch gets a short update line so later readers can see what moved and when.

Independence

Thoughtsfromheree does not sell tours and does not book travel for anyone else. There is no desk that holds your ferry reservation. This is a personal journal with a public mailbox. I will answer a route question or a correction. I will not take a commission to put you on a boat.

The contact page lists what I can and cannot help with. If you want a copyable loop, start with the field notes. If you want the order of regions, start with coast to coast. If you want the Friday-night decisions, start with planning.
